Account security - useful tips and a reminder

27.01.2009

Account security is one of the recurring topics on the internet - and one of the most important.

With a network so vast and uncontrollable as the internet, it is crucial choosing secure passwords for the different services you are using on the 'net.

Some people have only one password for all the sites and services they are using, some only use weak, simple passwords - you can imagine what happens if that password falls into the wrong hands!

To minimise this danger there are a few tips and tricks that are simple to follow but might save you from a head-ache in the long term:

Important steps to a more secure account

  • Make it lengthy (use at least more than 6-8 characters!)
  • Chose a combination of capital and lower case characters
  • Combine letters, numbers, and symbols
  • Avoid dictionary words in any language, sequences of letters, repeated characters, look-alike substitutions of numbers or symbols - Don't use passwords like "1111222", "asdfgh", "MrPresident" or "b1gh4ck3r"
  • Use different passwords for different sites.
  • Keep away from 3rd-party websites offering services like gold selling or power-leveling.
  • Keep your Operating System and browser up to date! Check for security updates on a regular basis.
  • Use a virus scanner and spyware removal software - and keep then up-to-date. Today's computer viruses are as dangerously versatile as their real-world counterparts: they mutate and adapt.
  • Never share your log-in details with anybody! Not only would you endanger your account security, you would also violate our Terms and Conditions.
  • Remember: No Frogster employee would ever ask you for your password! If anyone poses as Frogster employee and asks you for your password, contact our support team immediately.
  • Be extra careful when downloading "useful" software - even when the URL comes from someone you consider to be friend.
