23.12.08 - Happy Holidays
Dear friends,

before I am off for the Christmas holidays, I would like to thank all of you for a great time.

For all of us 2008 was a brilliant year. Especially the last few months were exciting. The Runes of Magic Closed Beta went really well, we went into Open Beta only a week ago and we are already amazed about how well our little game is received by press and players alike.

Personally I am really excited about the influx of new players that have joined us for the Open Beta and are leaving valuable feedback on the forums. I would like to thank each and every one of you for being part of this great community. It's a pleasure having so many people around.

The Community Team is now away for a few days relaxing and recharging the batteries. In early January we'll be back and are really looking forward to go ahead with the ton of things and events on our agenda. Until then we hope you have a great time in game - and don't worry should you encounter any issues or have any questions, the forums are still open and our great support team will be around too.

On behalf of the Frogster Team, I wish you very pleasant Christmas Holidays and a Happy 2009.

For the Christmas holidays we have a special offer in our Item Shop! Only 200 of two of the most wanted items are now half-price:
- Advanced Skill Reset Stone - was 199 diamonds - now for only 99 diamonds!

19.12.08 - Patch notes and Maintenance
Dear friends,

we have published a patch today and would like to direct your attention to the patch notes available on the forums which not only contains a number of important bux fixes but also introduces some new items to the Item Shop.

Also note that we will have to take the servers offline for a hotfix in the early morning hours - Sat. 20/12/2008, 3am GMT / 04:00h CET.

18.12.08 - Server maintenance 19/12/2008, 8am GMT / 09:00 CET
On Friday, 19th December 2008 we are going to take the Runes of Magic servers offline for maintenance and patching.

We are planning to take the servers down around 8am GMT / 09:00 CET and they should be back no later than noon GMT / 13:00 CET.

The patch notes will be available on the boards when the servers are up and running again.

18.12.08 - Creative Christmas Contest
Runes of Magic celebrates its first Christmas season and because it is a time of genrosity, we have asked our fansites to hold a competition.

All you creative geniuses are invited to create, design, draw, cook, bake, write, film or photograph something. The only rules are: it's your creation, it's safe to show to minors, it's about Runes of Magic.

From tomorrow, 19th December 2008, onwards the following sites run the competition:

16.12.08 - Community Spotlight
Ce.....lebrate good times! Come on! Let's have a celebration!

24 hours of Open Beta and everything is in ship-shape: The Item Shop is working fine, the log-in servers are working perfectly and the servers are filled to the brim with players.

So it's a good time for a little Community Spotlight.

Technical Information and Server Status

We have the first external Server Status site - Mimmox, our valued RoM Mentor has put together a site with a server status monitor and a lot of useful information on several technical aspects of the game.

New Pre-OB Reviews

TenTonHammer (EN) and Mondes Persistans (FR) have published fresh Previews on their sites.

The TenTonHammer preview sums it up like this: "I enjoyed the quests because they made a concerted effort to craft a story that expanded to a more global view the longer I played, [...] When all is said and done, [...] writing this article only made me want to play it again."

The reviewer at Mondes Persistants sums it up nicely by saying that RoM is a good choice for MMORPG fans and is a fair competitor to the mainstream market MMORPGs. If you speak French, check it out here.

PvP Ruleset now live on the site

We have compiled a bit of hard data and basic rules for all you PvP fans - did you know how much reputation you lose when you defeat a "good" character or how much you earn for killing this evil demon?

For the beginners, who want to check out how Player vs. Player fights work in Runes of Magic, we have a list of basic rules and guidelines.

Open Beta Feedback Forum

Runes of Magic is in Open Beta - and there still might be some things that could be better, skills that could be improved or quests that take you a bit longer than expected...

We would like to hear your opinion, your feedback... Is there anything you really like? Something you think could be improved?

US Site and Forums open

Right on time for the start of the Open Beta the US site and forums are open to the public.

Players on the US-based servers will find all the most recent news and information there, can get in touch with out offical support and find a helpful and friendly place to exchange information and find friends on the forums.

Please note that the EU RoM Support and Community teams are still available and happy to help all international players on the International (EU) servers.

And now, let's jump right back into the game!

The accounts of all our former Closed Beta players and all registered users are now activated and can access our Open Beta servers.

With it the in game Item Shop is open for business and there is much more to explore and discover.

15.12.08 - The RoM Beta is Open!
Dear friends,

a deep sigh of relief runs through the community. The time of waiting is over, the Open Beta will start soon.

The Runes of Magic Open Beta servers go online at noon GMT / 13:00 CET. First we will invite our Closed Beta Testers to join us. Two hours later, at 2pm CET / 15:00 CET, the servers are available for all our registered users.

As announced last week, we have set-up six servers ready - three for each language:

English (EU)
- EN (PvE) Siochain
- EN (PvE) Macantacht
- EN (PvP) Smacht
German
- DE (PvE) Laoch
- DE (PvE) Aontacht
- DE (PvP) Cogadh
More servers can be added to the list when the need arises within app. 48 hours.

With all the changes that have been made to the game, we strongly suggest that you download the updated and most recent client from one of our partner-sites.

To use the Ingame Item Store, you need to charge your Diamond / Runecoin-Account at http://diamonds.runesofmagic.com.

For starters, we suggest:
- Experience Potion: +50 % Exp for 1 hour
- Grouping Experience Potion: + 30% Exp - stacks with individual Exp.Potion
- Skill Potion: +50% Talent Points for 1 hour
- Mounts: 7 days / 30 days / Permanent

The Runes of Magic North American team has been working miracles - on time for the start of the RoM Open Beta, they have not only set up servers located in the US, they also put their site and forums live!

The names of the US servers are:

12.12.08 - Announcing the EU Server Names
Frogster is proud to announce the names of the Runes of Magic Open Beta servers (EU)!

We are opening three servers for each language (German and English), two PvE and one PvP server.

11.12.08 - Closed Beta is over
Dear Friends,

last night's "End-of-Closed Beta" event was a success. Hundreds of players joined Silberfuchs and me on the PvE and the PvP server to witness the destruction of Taborea.

The Open Beta will start on Monday, 15th December 2008 when we will open the servers for all our registered users.

Until then the servers will remain offline for extended maintenance, patching and hardening. All accounts will be activated and have access to the Open Beta on Monday.

A huge thank you to all our CB testers for their hard work and valued feedback.

We hope to see all of you back on Monday!

10.12.08 - Event: The presence
He had to tear himself away from the visions he had seen deep within the crystal.

Darkness, death and destruction; blood and bitter tears; malice and murder - No! This must not be. He needed to act, needed to act fast! With delicate fingers he replaced the silken black cloth to spare him the view of a falling Taborea.

Calling his apprentice he had but one thing in mind, "Go, fetch my brothers. Tell them Danatross needs them. NOW!" His steady gaze conveyed urgency. The apprenticed nodded, his master never looked so worried before.

Not long after the call, the brotherhood had assembled in the highest chamber at the top of the tower where Danatross' study lay. With a gesture he invited his guests to take their places around the huge wooden table. The twelve brothers sat down with Danatross presiding from his throne.

"Brothers, I have seen the ending of our world. We must act. We can not let it happen!"

Danatross words summoned images of violence, images of great horror and a terrible future where evil would reign the world. So they talked and worked and found a way. It would not be easy but they had to do it.

Raising from his seat a red glint from the candles was reflected from his eyes. He raised the hood of his robe, embroidered with magical symbols of silver thread, to place it on his head.

"Let us begin the ritual and rewrite history! Darkness is..."

With the chant of his circle, his last words were drowned out. Knifes were drawn and the bowl on the table was filling quickly with the blood from the palms of the brothers...

10.12.08 - Event: Chronicles of Taborea - Part 3
Third excerpt from the Chronicles of Taborea
From the third and last era "Cee-be T'a", just before the Great Shift

"GUARDS! TO THE GATES!"

Noises of swords meeting swords, the twanging of bow strings and the discharge of magical energy were heard from the outside. Torches danced like fireflies above the heads of the combatants - almost unable to pierce the darkness. The fight had been raging for half an eternity but neither side showed any sign of weariness. No one wanted to give up just yet.

The injured helped each other back to town only to be patched up again and being sent back to the front.

It was a futile fight. Darkness was everywhere, the defenders lost sight of each other within a few feet while the attackers furiously charged into every breach only to be thrown back by sheer luck and determination of the defending force.

The seals had crumbled, hell itself was unleashed - servants of evil had helped bringing the darkness to Taborea.

Varanas was under siege, no news from the rest of Taborea and the portals in the hands of the enemy...

Now they had to fight side by side - it was the last battle, the last fight...

The Darkness was everywhere - the time of the renewal has come!

The Closed Beta will end at 9pm GMT / 22:00 CET

10.12.08 - Runes of Magic - Winner of the Cape Contest
An incredible number of 4649 players have cast their vote and decided which cape will make it into the game!

After a tight head-to-head race, 1026 people voted for the winning entry.

This cape design will be sent to Runewaker and will make its way as special item into the game, expanding the range of character customisation options even further.

Not only will the winner be immortalised in the world of Taborea but will be the first to wear this cape before anyone else.
